The War in Lebanon 2006. After the kidnapping of two Israeli soldiers and the killing of another by the Hisbollah, fighting broke out on the 12th of July and carried on until the 14th of August between the Israeli Army and the Hisbollah forces. Official figures give 1109 civilian deaths in Lebanon during this period. 43 civilians died in Israel through rocket attacks. The war caused massive damage to the civilian infrastructure in Lebanon, both through air attacks and artillery fire. According to the lebanese Government 15000 Houses and Flats, 900 Factories, Shops and other Commercial Buildings, 32 Airports, Harbours, Waterworks, Sewage Plants and Electricity Plants, 25 Petrol Stations, 78 Bridges, 630 Kilometres Roads were destroyed. |
